Frequently Asked Questions

This page contains answers to commonly asked questions, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful.

How is Projected Tire life determined?

Projected Tire Life is a function of the tire's wear rate. The wear rate is a function of tire inspections. A minimum of one (1) inspection after the initial tire install is required to determine a wear rate. The more inspections a tire has received the more accurate becomes the wear rate.

Wear Rate = Tire Hours / Tread Used

Projected Tire Life = Usable Tread * Wear Rate

Usable Tread = Tread Depth of a new tire - Removal Tread

Removal Tread is the tread depth when a tire is considered used up (scrapped)

After EM Track version 4.0.3 the definition of "Tire Hours" has changed. It is always the last known tire hour that goes with the tread measurement of that inspection.

How does Default Tread Depth with Tire Entry work?

This feature is new starting with EM Track-III release 3.6.23. Tread Depths for some of the most popular tire brands, types and sizes are now known to EM Track-III. Whenever you ADD a new tire on the tire inventory screen, EM Track tries to find that particular "Brand, Size and Type" in its internal tread list. When found you will notice that the New and Purchased NS readings automatically populate and the value is displayed in green.

Be particularly careful with the choice of Tread Type. Since Tread Types can also be created by you under Table Maintenance it is possible that you created a new tread type that was not previously known in EM Track. You may have spelled that type slightly different and this new logic may not find it. For example: type RL-4JII is not the same as RL-4J II.

This default Tread Table is NOT user maintainable. Should you find other, commonly used treads please notify Eric Matson at Goodyear or the EM Track Support desk.

Why do my Dates on the reports overlap other columns?

EM Track-III follows the machine's date format as declared in the Control Panel, Region and Language. Ensure that the Short Date Format you select does not exceed 2 characters each for Day, Month and Year. Example: DD-MM-YY is a valid format, DD-MMM-YYYY is not.

How do I clean up my Removal Codes and Wear Conditions?

A special utility program is available for this purpose, issued with EM Track-III version 3.5.18..

What is the difference between Web Release and EM Track Versions?

Web release versions are currently in the 4000 range whereas EM Track-III program versions, as seen on its blue header bar, are on the 3.6.x range.

The EM Track version identifies the actual program version.

The Web release version is used to control "Downloads and Updates" from the GoodyearOTR web site. Although related, the version number ranges are only used for release management. The currently active versions can be seen on the Help/About screen in EM Track-III.

Why am I prompted to register EM Track-III every time I start the program?

The End User License Agreement (EULA) states that only one license (serial number) to operate EM Track-III may be installed on one computer at any one time. In order to enforce this, users must agree to register their serial number(s) with EM Track's license server before full access to the program is granted.

If users elect to bypass registration, the state of the program will be considered in Demo mode and the user will have 45 days or 60 starts of the program before it will shut down for good.

Users may conveniently register over the internet or Call the support desk at +1 216 255 3054 or e-mail to [email protected].

Why do I get an error popup when I close EM Track-III?

Upon closing the program EM Track-III is trying to write some internal information into a file located in "C:\Program Files\Data\EMT3 User". On some systems with tight security profiles, or when another user installed EM Track on your system, this folder does not share the same security rights as its root folders. You need to contact your IT department and have them change the properties of this folder to give you full access to this folder (Modify Rights)

What Windows Operating Systems are supported?

EM Track-III has been tested and is supported to run under Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 (both 32 and 64 bit) as well as Windows 8 Professional. For Windows Vista and later versions please consult the respective technical document located in the Downloads folder as well as references in the Installation document.

Why do tire counts differ between Forecast report 23 and Forecast report 9?

Tire Forecast Report #9 only projects currently installed tires, whereas the Tire Needs Forecast report #23 also projects and counts any spare tires in inventory, in addition to the currently running tires. Starting with version 3.5.14 you have a new option in the Forecast report #23 to exclude spare tires.

What is the best way to get help on message popup that appeared while running the program?

Sometimes users encounter either an error message they wish to report or a message they do not know how to respond to. What is the best way to get help with this message?

Follow these steps to utilize a simple Windows trick.

  1. Click anywhere in the message box (but not on a button).
  2. On your keyboard, press the "Control + C" key combination.
  3. Prepare an email to technical support (or go to the "Report Problem" section of this web site) and press your "Control + V" key combination. The message box text should now be copied into your destination location. (Sure beats typing doesn't it!)

What is the EM Track-III technical support policy?

The older EM-Track-II product is no longer supported.

New EM Track-III customers who paid $1500 (US) for their license, one year of free support and updates is included in the purchase price. After one year support expires and is renewed on-line on this web site under "Order /Renew EM Track", then "Renew Technical Support". The annual support cost per license is US $250.

How do I remove a casing from a vehicle in the Services screen?

Since two-piece tires are no longer supported, Casings are no longer tracked either

Why does EM Track-III "freeze" or appear to hang when I try to start it?

After installing and registering EM Track-III, users try to start the program but it appears to "freeze" or "hang" on the Goodyear banner screen before fully loading into memory.

Why is this and what happened?
On some computers, it is possible that the installation program did not create a new "..\Emtrack 3\Data" subdirectory to install the database in. When EM Track-III tries to start, it looks in this location for the database but can not find it, therefore the program never finishes loading.

Users should update their copy of EM Track-III to the latest version. Updating should resolve the issue. If updating does not help, please contact the Support Desk and they will walk you through a few different scenarios designed to get the program running. Alternately you may send an e-mail to [email protected]

Will I be able to run EM Track version two and version three side-by-side on the same computer?

Yes - Both versions will run side by side. You will not however, be able to share the same database. Each version must have its own database to run off of. Ensure all colleagues you swap data with understand this as version three data can not be read by version two of the program. If you updated to version three and attempt to switch to or import version two data, EM Track-III will convert the data for use in EM Track-III.
